Everyone knows about Old Town Scottsdale. The old west has survived into the 21st century in this little corner of Arizona. But there is so much more to the west’s most western town. Step away from the old, and let the “new” Scottsdale fill you with surprise and delight. When entering The Westin Kierland Resort and Spa Scottsdale, you’re bound to feel as if you’ve been transported into a magical desert oasis. One where you can relax, have fun, eat, shop, and let your cares drift away. Just let the concierge take care of the details, and you won’t have to worry about a thing.

One of the best ways to let your worries melt away is at the Agave Spa. Spa services ranging from acupuncture to facials, and massage are available, and salon services from pedicures, to hair styling and makeup are as well. If breaking a sweat is the way you like to relax, WestinWORKOUT is open 24 hours for your convenience. There’s also a program unique to the Westin called Fore-Max Training System. Not just for golfers anymore, the Fore-Max system is tailored to your specific health goals with Westin Kierland Agave Spa and Kierland Golf Club Fitness Director – Steve Heller. Steve will work with you to help you meet your goals whether they be strength, weight loss, or over all fitness related. Classes are held each morning and afternoon, and include a warm up, class, and a protein berry smoothie afterward to help you recharge.

When you’re looking for a fun time, the Westin is the place to do it. The Kierland Golf Club offers packages tailored to each golfers experience and skill level. Literally everything has been taken into consideration to make this your best golf vacation ever. From the things you might expect like club and golf shoe rentals to Fore-Max massages, to the little treats that add utter delight to this resort. It’s no surprise that it can get hot here in the valley of the sun with summertime temperatures topping well over 100 degrees. Taking this into consideration, the Westin Kierland has golf carts available with misters and air conditioning. Growing up, your dad probably told you to shut the windows and doors because you couldn’t air condition the outdoors. This is no problem at Kierland. One of the courses has a canopy to filter out the hottest sun, and keep the temperature cool with outdoor air conditioning! For an even more modern twist, how about ditching the cart, and traversing the course on Segways? There are Segways available for rent instead of golf carts if you’d like to try them out. They have been specially outfitted to carry your golf equipment as well as beverages and snacks you may have with you. They’re quieter than the carts, and run on emission free battery power, so it’s good for the environment, too. If you’d rather take a trip back in time, the Scottish Golf Experience might be the ultimate for you. Genuine kilt rentals are available for men and women. Johnnie Walker Blue, Gold, and Green Scotch is included. Perhaps the most unique thing about it is the bagpiper. That’s right, every evening at sunset, a bagpiper begins to play to “call in” the golfers from their game.

Golf isn’t the only fun to be had while you’re here. Shopping is always a good time, and the Kierland Commons shopping center is the place to do just that. It’s adjacent to the resort, so no need to even get into your car to arrive. Many families travel with children, and there’s lots to keep them entertained here. Age appropriate activities are set up for kids from ages 3 all the way to 17. Of course there are activities the whole family will enjoy from the sparkling pools to Kierland campfires and Arizona s’mores, and so much more. Contact the FUN Team prior to your arrival to set up the adventures you’re wanting. One of the more unique family attractions is the Kierland FlowRider. When you hear this, you may think you’re going to a concert, but don’t expect to hear any rap beats here. The FlowRider is a device that runs continual streams of water mimicking the waves of the ocean. Only guests get to take a ride on this surf. So grab a board, take a class, and get ready to hang ten!

Of course, who doesn’t love to eat while they’re on vacation? You’ll have no problem finding tasty bites while at the Westin. The best part will be knowing that they’re good for you too. The Westin has eliminated trans fats from it’s menu choices, and has included many “superfoods” that are rich in antioxidants. You’ll be able to find whatever you want. From the fine Spanish cuisine at Deseo which is only open for dinner, to Nellie Cashman’s Monday Club Cafe open all day. For casual bites and drinks, visit Brittlebush Bar & Grill, Waltz & Weiser Saloon, Edie’s Range House, or The Rim Lobby Lounge. J. Swillings is available for poolside drinks and eats, and Coffee Flats & Snowbowls offers that pick-me-up so often needed during the day.

With all the excitement, don’t forget about your room. In room dining is available, as are room gifts which can be timed to be there when you arrive or at a certain time you pick. The rooms and suites use Heavenly Beds, and have all the amenities you’d expect of a luxury resort. Feel free to bring along your four legged friend and there are special amenities offered just for your cat or dog. All of this makes sure it is a place you’ll want to return to again and again. Just listen for the bagpipes that will be calling you back.
