Do you have food allergies, Celiac disease, or have you ever just felt like a “freak at the table?” You’re not alone. Many people in the U.S. today have allergies to one or more types of food. Kirstin Carey was one of those people. After years of suffering, she learned that she has Celiac Disease and several food allergies. Always feeling like a freak at the table due to her dietary restrictions, she took her background in business and opened Nourish. Nourish Scottsdale is a restaurant that is sensitive to food allergies and restrictions so you can freak out all you want!
Kirstin chose Don Santos as the Executive Chef of her restaurant. Chef Santos has a lot of training with making delicious food within the parameters of dietary restrictions through his experience with the elderly, and a surgical hospital. Feel free to sit back, relax, and enjoy the food. When you look at the menu, there are two sections- consistent for food you’ll always find on the menu, and revolving for when Chef Santos wants to be creative. There are also different colored dots on the menu to indicate choices that are gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, lactose free and so on. On the Consistent, or Staples menu, for Starters, the options are delicious and light. Try Lemon Hummus, or Sweet Potato and Avocado Salad. Main Dishes include choices like a Grass-Fed Beef Burger, Wild Salmon, or even a Raw Veggie Burger. On the revolving, or Whim menu, choices vary year round, but starters can include Spring Rolls and Original Quinoa Salad. Main Dishes are offerings like Mango Avocado Salad, Raw Italian Wrap or Spaghetti and Meatballs. Be advised that this dish is actually nut meatballs with veggie pasta and raw marinara. It’s your old favorite made healthy! Drinks at Nourish are healthy too. Try a smoothie or coconut water, many hot teas are served as well. Just because you’re eating healthy doesn’t mean you can’t have a cocktail! Nourish cocktails are made with the finest organic vodka, rum and organic mixers. A selection of wine, beer, and cider is also available.
The way we eat can have a lot to do with how we feel. This is why Nourish is not only a place to come eat, but a place to learn as well. Cooking classes are offered throughout the year to learn how to make raw desserts and more. There are even cookbooks available online and recipes for things you never thought you’d make yourself like almond milk and flour. Events are also offered throughout the year for food sampling and dinners with lectures from health professionals. Check the website often for events, classes, and to buy a gift card.
Another benefit of Nourish is the coaching. If you wish, you can have nutritional coaching and a personalized blueprint program. The purpose of the program is to get you feeling your best and more in control of your life. It can be specifically tailored to your personal needs and lifestyle. All of them start with a three day detox, and take you on your food journey from there. To keep you on track, there are also live coaches to speak with. You can choose to meet them in person, communicate over the phone, or with FaceTime. Throughout your program, texting or emailing your coaches is always an option. This is a place where you can truly enjoy yourself no matter what kind of a freak you happen to be. Egg free, gluten free, dairy free, corn free, vegan, vegetarian, nut free, raw or paleo- no worries!
