As “The West’s Most Western Town” Scottsdale’s past has had it’s share of gun toting cowboys, outlaws, and shoot outs. As a gun friendly state, it should be no surprise that many of Arizona’s residents own firearms as a means of hunting, defense, or collecting. No matter what the use, guns can be an exclusive hobby as well as a connection to history, so it’s great to have a place to go where you can mingle with others who share your views and have a great time while you’re at it. The Scottsdale Gun Club (SCG) provides this place and so much more.

One thing everyone can agree on, is the need to be knowledgeable about your firearm, and know how to handle it safely. Scottsdale Gun Club requires everyone to watch an informative safety video before stepping foot on the range. Eye and ear protection is available for purchase or rent, and suggestions on what to wear are given. There are restrictions about what kind of ammunition may be used on the firing range, and the website outlines this in detail. It’s also important to wash your hands after you’re done firing to avoid the possibility of ingesting any gunpowder or lead, and hand washing stations are available.

Many classes for safety, education, and fun are offered at SGC. Classes like Concealed Carry (CCW,) Handgun Disarming, Ladies of Liberty, Family Firearms, Urban Survivor, and more are offered. SGC employs knowledgeable instructors and has a Defensive Tactics Center for clear instruction and state of the art classrooms. The facilities are available for private use as well as training for both individuals and teams. The classrooms are comfortable and equipped with audio/visual capabilities with room for up to 36 students. The Defensive Tactics Center is great for training for professionals or civilians. There are even men’s and women’s showers and locker rooms to allow you to freshen up afterwards. Class descriptions are available to read online, and you can also register for a class right on your computer. If you need to cancel, at least a 24 hour notice is required in order to get a refund.

The shooting lanes at the club are some of the most cutting edge you’ll find anywhere. The 32 lanes are broken up into four bays of eight lanes each. The lanes are air conditioned and the air is filtered to cut down on any smoke. Sound dampening technology is utilized, as are programmable target movement, targets that can rotate 360 degrees, and touch screens that allow you to control it all. Almost any firearm is allowed to be shot at the range including rifles, handguns, and even machine guns. It’s even ok to bring your kids to the range. They are allowed to shoot as long as they have a parent with them and are at least 8 years old. It’s never too young to learn safety and respect for guns. There’s even a Tactical Bay which is perfect for practicing different firing positions and firearm presentation (drawing the firearm from a holster.)

Of course, what would a Scottsdale Gun Club be without a place to shop? SGCUSA is the online store where you can purchase everything from clothing, bags, and gift cards to the rifles and handguns themselves. Inside SGC, there’s a 4,000 square foot area of retail floor full of holsters, knives, guns, gun safes and more. There are also gunsmithing services available. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs are all handled by expert technicians and the kind of friendly personnel you’d expect.

A shooting range may not be the first place you think of when deciding where to hold your corporate event, but at SGC, it’s a fun way to think outside the box. Many of the classrooms are available for rent for your meeting, and with state of the art audio/ visual equipment, it’s a great choice. It also allows your employees access to the range to blow off some steam afterwards so it’s great for team building as well. There are always fun events taking place at the Gun Club from classes, to ladies night on Monday’s where ladies shoot for free after 5 p.m. Just check their event calendar, and have a safe, fun time.
